Ernie - Hero of the Day

On  26th August 2007  Ernie on board Diandus, and John on board Two Jays, went for a sail up to the Solway Buoy.  The weather was fine and sea state slight.
On the way back they had to put their engines on, to get back to Maryport before the gate closed.   Near Allonby Two Jays engine started to overheat and John had to turn the engine off and radio Ernie for a tow.
As always in the Solway the weather started to deteriorate suddenly, and in choppy waters Ernie managed to throw a tow rope to John.
The call for assistance was heard by a few members, over the radio.  Harry (Lydia B) contacted Frank who was on duty at the Marina.  We all waited anxiously for the two yachts to appear - taking bets on whether they were going to make it in time, as the wind was against them!
Frank, being an experienced gate keeper, kept the gate open long enough for Ernie and John to make it back in to the marina safely.   Well Done Frank!
A loud cheer and car horns greeted the two yachts as they came in over the sill.
Well Done Ernie!

The problem with the engine was a faulty impeller.  So folks check and change your engines impeller regularly.
We had problems with Charlie Girl’s engine during passage to the Isle of Man.  This was due to a faulty impeller.
It is not to be recommended, as Chris (Strathfarrar) and Brian found out, to drink too much whisky the night before putting your head down in the engine to change the impeller!
Thanks Chris for your help in adverse circumstances!
