. TEXTOR`s  First Trip Of The Season March 08

Boat back in the water and mostly sorted, and it’s time to go for a sail and see what’s really not working.
F3 NW great - I can sail back in if engine conks.
Tide 1005hrs, not too early - out and back before winds build later in the day.

1st  problem - Notice on board - Gates to close at 0930hrs for planned maintenance. (Obscene references about booze ups and breweries)
Never mind - go out all day and see if new Nav lights are any good. The forecast NW F6/7/8 was “later” after all.

2nd problem - 1mile out autopilot fails. Too late to get back because of the gate (more references to breweries)- replace fuse while boat drifts. Oops! blown again. Back-up tiller pilot plugged in - different wiring and plug, but on same switch and fuse. Blown again!
Time to get on with the sailing single-handed, and heave to for brews and chart work.

Lovely sunny sail - inspect the new wind farm - only 8 bases so far  and no one working - its going to be huge. Anchor for lunch NE of Hestan Isle. New anchor is fine but this mud/soft sand is no test really. I will have to wait for Hebridean hard sand and spaghetti weed to see if my new toy is worth the dosh.
Sorted autopilot wiring problem - loose spade connector shorting out on back of switch panel.

3rd problem - clouding over, wind picking up. The thought of NW strong winds and Maryport entrance in the dark make me consider the alternatives. Its getting very cold and like a pratt I am geared up for daytrips only, I have no sleeping bag and only biscuits and coffee for sustenance. Maryport it is then.

Lovely but cold sail downwind back to Maryport. Everything works. Surf into the outer harbour before sorting sails, fenders and lines. And now for the predictable bit -
4th problem - gate is late opening and more brewery references.
